How do you steam your face?
Whether you're using an electric steamer or a cooking vessel, the basic
routine is the same. If you're using a steamer, pour water into the
designated section. Or fill a medium-sized cooking vessel with water,
cover it with a lid and let the water come to a boil. Take the vessel off
the fire after the water starts boiling and releases steam. Place the
vessel or steamer on a table (not too near the edge or it could topple
over). Cover your head and shoulders with a towel. Make sure your face is
right above the steam, and that the steam doesn't escape. Ensure that you
keep some distance between the vessel and your face to avoid getting
burnt. You could even add a few drops of an essential oil to the water to
relax or invigorate you. Allow the steam to penetrate your face for about
10 minutes for oily skin, or about three to five minutes for dry skin.
Steam your face for no more than 10 minutes and if you feel that the
steam's too hot or your skin's burning, stop immediately. If you have dry
skin, you could add a few drops of almond or baby oil to the water. If you
have combination skin, add a few rose petals. After you steam your face,
wipe it with a cotton ball and cleanser to remove the impurities loosened
by the steam and do remember to rinse your face with cold water after
that.
Some beauticians suggest that you should steam your face after cleansing
your face lightly and massaging it with rich oils, while others recommend
steaming the face before beginning any beauty treatment. While the jury is
out on that, let's look at its benefits.
